A well-rounded education has made me a well-rounded human being
Jeremy shared his story with the school for Sophia Mundi’s 30-year anniversary celebration in 2015. We are re-sharing it here.

Memories from my time at Sophia Mundi.
I started in kindergarten in 1998 with two years of kindergarten, followed by prep then classes 1-12. Apparently, before I went to Sophia Mundi I was going to a mainstream kindergarten and really hated it, so my parents took me for a visit to Heiderose at Sophia Mundi and half an hour later I said “I want to go to that school tomorrow”.
I really enjoyed my year 8 project. I designed and made a tandem tricycle with a wooden frame. People at Ceres bike shed and other people I talked to said it would not be possible to make, however I felt confident I could do it and managed to overcome a lot of barriers and challenges. The first children to ride it were my 2 cousins Max and George, who go to Sophia Mundi now!
The other great memory I have were the year 9 camps. I saw some really cool places. The experiences gave me a great love of the outdoors.
Which extra curriculum activities did you enjoy whilst at SMSS?
I was a member of Kew Scouts for 3 years. We had a great scout leader who was a doctor and had lots of good stories from the Emergency department that he worked at.
I played cello in Melbourne Youth Music’s Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra for 3 years. This was a wonderful experience as we had frequent concerts of exciting and challenging music at top venues in Melbourne. I learnt a lot and developed my musical skills very quickly.
Where are you now and what are you doing?
I am currently completing my first year of a Bachelor of Paramedicine and Public Health Promotion at La Trobe University at Bendigo. I live on campus and the lifestyle is great. I am going on placements next year with Ambulance Victoria and I can’t wait!
How has your Sophia Mundi education inspired or influenced your life?
I am glad the well-rounded education at Sophia Mundi has led to me having interests in many different areas. I also have a part-time job doing marketing projects including building web sites and editing videos. The creative skills I developed while at school helped with this type of work.

This photo is from Athens. (Notice the Sophia Mundi sports shorts…) It was taken during my Gap year last year when I spent nine incredible months in Europe. Five of them were with my two mates Michael and Oliver, both alumni of Sophia Mundi.
