Community Voices - Class 6 Parent: Connection & Nature
Connection and nature
Our journey at Sophia Mundi and with Steiner education from 18 month-old play group, and kindergarten before then, began with a deep sense of connection - to ourselves, to community, and to nature. From the beginning, we felt that Steiner education aligned with our values: nurturing each child’s unique gifts so they can truly blossom, rather than shaping them into something predetermined.
What stood out to us was the emphasis on observing the child, honouring who they are, and building strong, meaningful relationships throughout their primary school years. The focus on imagination, creativity, and a natural rhythm felt both grounding and inspiring. We found it incredibly special that the school celebrates each child for who they are, allowing their individuality to unfold in a deeply respectful and supportive way.
For us, the beauty of the natural environment has always been important. When we moved to Melbourne, we fell completely in love with the Abbotsford Convent. The sense of peace, the animals, and the daily immersion in nature were all compelling reasons why Sophia Mundi felt like the right choice for our family. Having our child surrounded by such an environment each day was a major drawcard and affirmed our decision.
There is a connection here - within the school, with nature, and with the community - that feels very special. Choosing Sophia Mundi and Steiner education has felt like choosing a place where our child can grow in a way that is authentic, grounded, and true to who they are.
