The main aim of Physical Education is to help children find a
healthy orientation in the world through the medium of physical
bodily activities. Therefore, we introduce the children to a wide
range of physical activities in the hope that they will find practices
which will be of interest to them and suit their body type.
Some of the children pursue competitive sports run outside our
school because this is their interest. For the average student however,
our aim is to help improve their own skills and to find their way
into areas that will interest and benefit them

Through physical activity the students will meet the challenges
of facing their own physical limitations, improving themselves through
striving, learning to work with the will of others and enjoying
a growing sense of self reliance coupled with the responsibility
for those around them.
In the Steiner system, we see the growth of consciousness as
the most essential feature of human education and because of this
we can value the development of a harmonious and healthy body because
only in such a “temple of spirit” can a human being find their fullest
spiritual functioning.

Physical Education in the Primary School
We avoid major games in the Primary School, preferring to develop
all round skills, coordination and fitness. Activities include swimming,
gymnastics, minor games, dance and movement patterns, balance activities
and circus skills, bothmer gymnastics, and athletics.
Secondary Physical Education
In the secondary school classes seven through to ten take part
in the Physical Education program. A very broad curriculum is offered
which includes swimming, fitness training and testing, athletics,
gymnastics, circus skills, bothmer gymnastics, movement and dance,
athletics and a large component of major games.

Classes eleven and twelve also take part in Physical Education,
however the focus is different. In class eleven the students are
given a vast choice of activities and also plan and implement their
own lesson. In class twelve the students undertake a five week gym
program in which they experience first hand the physical changes
which occur with regular heart/lung exercise and weight training.
They also look at their dietary intake and see how that can also
be improved. We want to give the students an opportunity to develop
life-long healthy practices.

School sport
School sport takes place on Wednesday afternoons (3.00-4.30)
for class 9&10, and on Thursday afternoons for class 7&8. It is
a compulsory program for all students and provides a multitude of
opportunities for students to develop skills in a diverse range
of sports, expand their ability to work cohesively with others,
create both team and leadership qualities and to experience camaraderie
and fun.
