Spring Fair – a great day

Thank you to our fantastic community for for all your help and support at the Spring Fair on 6 November 2011.  It was a memorable day – a great opportunity to meet old friends as well as a number of prospective new students and their families.

Sophia Mundi Facilities Update: Heritage Victoria Permit issued for new classrooms approved by Planning Minister

Heritage Victoria issued a permit for the construction of the new classrooms at St Marys on 9 September.  The Planning Minister, Matthew Guy, then announced the final decision to proceed with the construction of the classrooms and moving our playground to the disused swimming pool adjacent to St Marys on 7 December.

Construction of the new classrooms, science laboratories and relocated playground will now occur over the January-June 2012 period, we aim to be all moved for the start of third term 2012.

More information about the new facilities is provided on our new facilities page.

International Baccalaureate – Sophia Mundi now an IB World School

We've received our formal accreditation as an International Baccalaureate World School, dated 20 October 2011.

While this is the culmination of a lot of hard work in preparing our staff and school for accreditation, in reality this is the first step in our journey with our students on the path to delivering a really world class educational outcome, combining our Steiner curriculum with the IB certification and programme.  Staff, Students and parents in year 10 are already using the IB "ManageBac" system in preparation for year 11 in 2012.

As part of the accreditation program, Briony and Peter of the IBO visited on 5-7 September to meet our staff, our students and parents; to review / audit our policies and procedures; to go through our curriculum and to inspect our facilities.

Briony and Peter were thoroughly impressed by our preparation, our staff and the great fit between our school's philosophy and vision and that of the IBO.

Prep Garden Move

A team of parents are working towards the move of our Prep garden from Nicholson St to St Marys.  Please be prepared to help – in particular if you can help with project management of the move, or if you know people who can help with tree relocation services.

Fundraising and Offers of In Kind Support

The designs of our new science laboratories are in the process of being finalised by our architects. Greg Burgess AM, has been engaged to advise on the external look and feel of the building to make sure it blends sympathetically with the surroundings.

Please take time to review the display of the plans in the foyer at school. We NEED YOUR SUPPORT in another way too. As well as raising funds for the school's contribution to the construction costs for the Science Wing, we are also looking for donations of goods and services in kind. Recent examples of donations include insulation, draft proofing materials and a design review to minimise energy use. Please contact Robin Power with any questions or to make donation arrangements on 0404 114 751.
